# 🔧 My Columns Aren’t Syncing — Troubleshooting Guide

Are your columns not syncing between boards? Don't worry — this is one of the most common questions we get, and it's almost always easy to fix.

Below you'll find **every known reason** why columns may fail to sync in Same Item Multiple Boards, along with step-by-step solutions for each one.

---

## At a Glance

| # | Possible Cause | Quick Fix |
| ---- |
| 1 | App installed for one workspace only | Switch to **All Workspaces** |
| 2 | Unsupported column type | Check our supported columns list |
| 3 | Column names or types don't match | Align columns on both boards |
| 4 | Managed column restrictions | Match allowed values on both boards |
| 5 | No edit permission on destination board | Ask admin for edit access |
| 6 | Webhooks disabled or broken | Reinstall SIMB webhooks |
| 7 | Large batch operation | Sync in smaller batches |
| 8 | Conflicting automations | Pause and test |
| 9 | Board performance issues | Archive and clean up |
| 10 | Unknown cause | Run the Discrepancy Report |

## 1. SIMB Is Installed for One Workspace Only

If the app was installed for a **single workspace**, boards outside that workspace won't appear as available destinations — and syncing between them won't work.

### How to fix it

1. Open the **Apps Marketplace** in monday.com.
2. Search for **Same Item Multiple Boards**.
3. Open the app and go to the **App Management** tab.
4. Check the installation scope:
* **All Workspaces** = fully enabled
* **Specific workspace only** = restricted
5. Switch it to **All Workspaces**.

This ensures SIMB can connect boards across your entire account.

## 2. Unsupported Column Type

Some column types aren't supported by SIMB. If a column type isn't on our supported list, it simply won't sync — even if everything else is set up correctly.

### How to fix it

Check our list of supported column types and make sure your columns are compatible. If you're using an unsupported type, consider switching to a supported alternative.

---

## 3. Columns Don't Match Across Boards

For a column to sync, it must exist on **all connected boards** with:

* The **same column name**
* The **same column type**
* The **same structure and settings**

If a column is missing or doesn't match, SIMB will skip syncing that field.

### How to fix it

Make sure all required columns exist on both the source and destination boards with identical names and types. You can use the **Column Mapping** window when adding an item to another board — it shows you exactly which columns match, which are mismatched, and which are missing.

## 4. Managed Columns (Column Permissions)

If a column has **column-level permissions** turned on (a "managed column"), SIMB can still sync it — but only if the **value being synced is allowed on both boards**.

For example: Board A has a managed Status column that only allows "Done" and "Stuck." Someone sets the status on Board B to "Working on it." The sync fails — because that label isn't permitted on Board A.

### How to fix it

1. Open both boards side by side.
2. Compare the **allowed values** on the managed column.
3. Make sure every value that could be synced **exists on both boards**.
4. Ensure label names match **exactly** — including spelling and capitalization.

## 5. No Edit Permission on the Destination Board

If you don't have edit access to the destination board, or if the board has restricted permissions, updates will fail silently — nothing will appear to happen.

### How to fix it

Ask your admin or board owner to make sure you have:

* **Edit permissions** on the destination board
* **Access to all connected boards**
* The **correct role** for updating items

---

## 6. Webhooks Are Disabled or Broken

SIMB relies on **webhooks** to detect changes and sync updates. If a webhook gets disabled, deleted, or broken, items may stop syncing.

### How to fix it

Reinstall or re-enable the SIMB webhook on the affected board. You can do this from **Board Settings > Webhooks**, or use the refresh option inside the SIMB Item View.

If webhooks keep misbehaving, reach out to our support team and we'll refresh them from our side.

## 7. Large Batch Operations

Syncing a very large number of items at once (for example, when duplicating many items in bulk) can trigger rate limits or cause partial syncing.

### How to fix it

Try syncing items in **smaller batches** instead of all at once. If the issue persists, contact us and we can check the logs on our end.

---

## 8. Conflicting Automations

Heavy automation activity on the same items can interfere with SIMB updates, especially if multiple automations are triggering at the same time.

### How to fix it

1. **Pause** related automations temporarily.
2. **Test** syncing again.
3. If the issue disappears, adjust your automation logic to avoid loops or overlapping triggers.

---

## 9. Board Performance Issues

Very large boards, cluttered structures, or too many active automations can slow down or interrupt sync performance.

### How to fix it

* **Archive** items you no longer need
* **Remove** unused columns
* **Reduce** overlapping automations
* **Split** massive boards into smaller ones if possible

---

## 10. Use the Discrepancy Report

If none of the above helps — or if items partially synced and stopped mid-way — the **Discrepancy Report** is your best diagnostic tool.

It quickly highlights:

* Items that didn't sync
* Missing updates
* Mismatched columns
* Boards with missing data

### How to use it

Open the **SIMB Item View** on any item, and run the Discrepancy Report. It's the fastest way to pinpoint exactly what needs attention.
